Gant Plaza Green Roof
Gant Plaza is located in the back of the Math/Science building, and has pedestrian access. A grant was obtained to install a green roof on a section of the roof. GreenGrid® modules were chosen for this project. These modules arrive pre-planted, and are simply set in place on the “roof”. The plants in the trays are varieties that are well adapted to the harsh environment that exists on a roof, with high temperatures, winds, and only natural precipitation. Funding for research on precipitation and pollutant retention was also part of the grant. Jack Clausen (Professor, Natural Resources and the Environment department, UConn) was the lead investigator on this aspect of the project. He and a graduate student have submitted the research results for publication.
